On a trip yesterday, we spent a bit of time trying to figure out what the best colour slings are for underground use.

So, what do y’all think?

The folk I was out with yesterday appeared to possess a good range of mud coloured slings in various sizes and shades...

I had a green one thrust into my hand to use yesterday and was extremely dubious about it. It was the first time I'd ever used a green one - always avoided them after the various reported incidents involving them.
However, it performed admirably, wrapping around a piece of rail with ease & both ends meeting up perfectly for insertion of the Karabiner (orange)
Next time though I'll take my own blue ones.

I know Roy, but having free-climbed the rise I was already at the top, so wasn't too bothered!!! Now if i'd have been one of the poor unfortunates still at the bottom, knowing that they had to ascend a pitch (a)rigged by me with (b)a green sling & (c)an orange krab, i'd have been saying a prayer to the great mucky mine god.

Don't get me started with helmet colours, they aren't colour-coded for nothing. Unfortunately the helmet makers see fit to hide this colour information in the depths of the small print. Anyone with a white one should read their PPE safety label carefully! Give me a bomb-proof red helmet every time.

Well yes. I do have a blue one, but wouldn't even think of wearing it for SRT. Even started referring to my red ones as my "SRT Helmets".

Yeah I read it, understood it, no problems there.

No difference in strength or performance in the different colours

Hey watch it; I'm an Agent for a civils and ground engineering company. I 'strut my power around' as you say and for good reason; there can only ever be one person in charge of anything in life and on my site its me.

Having said that, you'll never work for a better man than me :smartass:

I remember an argument on site when I worked as workshop manager over some long forgotten minor issue. Our rather pompous and somewhat unpopular site supervisor, Bob, overruled me by bellowing "I'M THE ONE WITH THE WHITE HAT" of course my whole crew dissolved into sniggers and henceforth whenever asked a question of any nature, however insignificant, if Bob was in sight would point at him and say "dunno - he's the one with the white hat...."
