Never mind shafts....I'd fly from the living room to the fridge to fetch a beer. And go upstairs. And walk the dog. And clean the windows. And prune trees. Adjust the TV aerial. Blow dry Mrs Sinker's hair. Get my resident teenagers out of bed. I want one!

On a serious not its time to introduce a mandatory Alp-style insurance scheme for walkers and climbers if we are going to be investing millions in jetpacks on top of the millions spent on helicopters and air ambulances :curse:

I've been following the development of this for a few years. Don't know if anyone knows but you need to be built like Popeye to fly one - its as if your on a set of gymnastic rings.

Transporting, getting a paramedic there, doning, preflight checks, weather window? All possibly bought and maintained for the cost of two or three ambulances? Considering when and where it could fly I think a CAS carer may have already arrived.

I know!... fly the paramedic and suit to the gathering point then he could impressively jetsuit the remaining distance (for fb likes) while the chopper waits for instructions to fetch the casualty. ::)

Well its gives the term "Flying Doctor" a whole new meaning, but the burning unanswered question is: "How much do they cost"?

Hi Roy a figure of £340,000, was mentioned tonight on the ITV news. No doubt you will be ordering a couple?

Glad to hear that I'm not the only cynic (realist) who thinks that this kind of stuff is a waste of bloody time.

It's clearly an opportunistic grab at the headlines, but it's still seriously impressive. There must be some negative feedback mechanism to provide stability. Also there must be some mechanism limiting height above ground.

Yeah, but most new technology is a poor substitute for the status quo in its first iteration. Just look at the first motor cars when compared to horses. But look at the motor car now. Somewhat better than a horse?

Give it time.

I've no issue with this or any other new technology; it was more to do with the cynical way it was being marketed to generate interest and clicks....may as well have said that it can be used to rescue kittens from trees, dogs from mineshafts, deliver kidneys for transplant, dropping off and collecting Covid test kits and delivering pizzas during lockdown. >:(

It certainly has seen some damage in its years of service for the mod but luckily built like a tank !

The way oil company share prices are going, I’ll opt for the horse thanks. Plus, they out perform most suv’s as all terrain vehicles. :)

As for the jet pack, the Selridges one, a tank of Jet-A1 kerosene strapped to your back and only a 5-10min flight time? You’ll need a rescue team on standby for the rescue team.
