Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone was aware of an open mining level (access via a narrow hole partially hidden in undergrowth) by a public footpath along the old railway line from Cilfynydd to Nelson? I came across the entrance about a month ago whilst out picking wimberries, and returned today to find out what it was. I squeezed carefully into the hole and realised it is a mining level, stretching horizontally for about 10 metres before beginning to descend. It is definitely a man-made tunnel, with clear tool marks in the wall. It also appears to be marked as "old mining level" on the 1888 Ordnance map of the area.

I'm new to this site, but wondered if anyone knew anything? I have taken some photos but can't work out how to post them here!

Thanks

Ben
