I was reading about the Longannet mine complex in Fife and noticed that it used to have adit entrances, I wondered if any of these are still accessible, I'm guessing likely not as probably sealed and landscaped, the mines themselves would of course be flooded now but there must still be entrance tunnels running for some length, even if not acessible.

From what I remember reading, they've have generally been walled up 50m down the drift, then backfilled and grouted to the surface where it's been landscaped over.

I guess that answers that then! About what i thought, as a major mine it would have almost certainly have been thoroughly sealed and landscaped, would have been an interesting explore though if not sealed up.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
