There is alot to see on the edge wales and alot more further in. I'm sure there be people on here more than happy to show you around. would be best if you asked the same question about a month before hand. I know I should be around somewhere.

Hi Thomas

I don't know enough about the mines/quarries on the English side of the border (hence suggesting that asking the forum), but as well as the Shropshire and Midlands mines you're within 30 miles of two excellent Welsh slate mines:

Moel Fferna: http://www.aditnow.co.uk/mines/Moel-Fferna-Slate-Mine/

Penarth: http://www.aditnow.co.uk/mines/Penarth-Slate-Mine/

Both are very interesting, but Moel Fferna is bigger and has more to see. However Moel Fferna requires some rope work; abseil in and ascend out, about 10 to 12 metres. It wouldn't be wise to go there unless you're happy with SRT.

Would be happy to visit both with you in June if that sounds of interest.

Thanks,
Simon
my orders are to sit here and watch the world go by

There's usually members of the Shropshire Caving Mining Club doing something on a Wednesday night. It could be Snailbeach, or possibly any other mine in the area (Huglith is another favourite) and they're usually happy to show someone around.
There are a lot of sites to visit in the South Shropshire area and around Oswestry (Llanymynych, Glyn Ceriog) and further afield are the Llangynog mines.
