Gave me some new ideas for supporting digs. I've used acrow jacks and trench structs but have not previously considered base jacks.

A great use for trench structs is as temporary stemple belays across stopes - saves bolting and saves hunting for rock sound enough to bolt.

Base Jacks are brilliant bits of kit, think of them as mini-acros.

We used a couple horizontally to push back and straighten a length of bulging packwall which was constricting space in our dig.

I think we bought them on Ebay - come in packs of 4 for around £40.

£40 for four base jacks sounds a little expensive, Ten years ago when I last bought trench struts they were just over £20 each new including VAT (they vary a little in price according to length).

The UK caving posts spoke of £4 each for base jacks which seems excellent value. Possibly second hand at that price I imagine.

Can't really comment on the price, historically speaking. When I needed ours, I shopped around and got the best price at the time.

I've two new and unused ones left if anyone wants to bid me a tenner each and collect next time they're up Weird-Dale way.
