Another waif of a mine entrance. PeteJ suggests it could be Blackdene and the portal date matches other pics on the archive album, but the entrance structure is different.

Additionally if you look at chriscambo's photo the rails drop into the decline at the entrance but not on my Dad's photo and the mine infrastructure is more complex.

I suspect it was taken in the early/mid 1980's.

Anyone hazard a suggestion.

Looks like the same place with an extension added to the old portal?

Edit: Perhaps more than one adit at site?

It's a possibility but I'm less sure it's the old horse level that was rebuilt as Dave Williams has a 1970's photo of HPM outside it, after the portal date on JFM's photo.

The plant cladding on JFM's photo and others on the archive album have similarities but beyond that I'm still uncertain.

The line of trees certainly seem to suggest both images are the same place.

Good spotting Morlock,

May be why PeteJ suggested the site, that would indicate that the whole portal was moved by several yards between 1965 and the late 1980's (and kept the date stone) sadly neither chriscambo's photo nor Dad's has a definite date attached (or site in JFM's case) but given Mum's mining gear I would think it would be 1980 at the earliest, by which time BSC's over-excitement about fluorspar mining was dwindling. With luck someone else has a properly annotated photo lurking.

Looking again at the first two images I would guess the portal was extended to bring it to the level of the general area, sort of 'heapstead' thing.

Could be my dating was out as there are some similarities with Manxman 2012 pic of the "New Decline"

Perhaps this development was done by Weardale Mining and Processing, they seemed to have run the site from 1982 to 1991 but given chriscambo's date of the late 80's for Mr Wilcock's photo and the site being cleared by 1997 (Manxman's pic was prior to that - edit -maybe 1992-6 from one of his other pics?) things still don't quite gel, but getting closer.

Jim

PS re. above pic of HMP, North Pennines AONB have a picture of him and at least on other PDMHS type at the horse level intimating that they are fluorspar miners:o

Hi ebgb,

You wouldn't have a confirmatory photo at all would you?? I'll put onto to the site anyway but I've been caught out by you and one or two others who know the area well by putting photos in the wrong place. I still blame parents nowadays:)

And congrats on your laddering and ochre lake find.
