I have just had a quick trawl through what I have on my netbook and came up with this which could have something to do with it.

British Caving Association
PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE POLICY 2006: SYNOPSIS OF COVER
Underwritten by Brit Insurance Ltd via brokers RBPM General Ltd (Authorised by the Financial Services Authority)
1 The Period of Insurance runs from 1st January 2006 to 31st December 2006.

CONTINUES

6 The Policy also includes an "Indemnity to Others" clause which will provide an indemnity to any land/property owner with whom an insured member, or member organisation, with the full knowledge and consent of BCA Insurance Manager, has entered into an agreement or contract. (This fully indemnifies landowners who enter into access agreements for the crossing of their land, and/or the exploration of their caves.)

ENDS

If I am wrong on any of this I apologise to all concerned, but I have this from somewhere and only go by information I have been given, typically by email or documents downloaded from BCA website or forwarded to me by individuals. I am of course aware of the increase in policy cover from £2M to £5M

At this time I am unaware of where I got the £250,000 figure from, as I said I dont have everything to hand, it also appears from the above to be part of the policy.

I think clarification of the situation highly desirable.

To create a new "caving group" it costs depending on the amount of members. Up to ten members costs £10 per anum, 11-20 members £20, 21-30 members £30 etc.
As well as this each member will require individual subscription to the insurance at £17 per anum. This is 25% cheaper than doing it individually.

(I formed a new Group last year)

Your prices are a little off, we are less than 10 members, but it's £20 BCA membership, plus everyone's insurance.

I think to be honest after weighing up the pros and cons.... I'll be recommending that we join individually through Adit now.

Cheers for all the, advice though folks... Much appreciated.

Roy, that information is 10 years out of date. We've had 2 brokers and three different underwriters since then!

Current info. is on the BCA website under Insurance -> Documents. (I'd post a link but the forum software seems not to like it).

Drop me a line if you need any further clarification.

Kind regards

Nick.

Yes
This was from back in 2012 when I was trying to put a package together for the landowners of Slipton Iron mines to save underground access.
This was unsuccessful, but having confirmed that a landowner could itself be an ACB, this was an object model for the later CMT, and we all know the story from then.
