As a little nit-pick Michell's engine is NOT spelt with a letter "T" in its name. Sorry to be a bit pedantic.

That is very true but Mitchell's shaft does.

It certainly looks like they are dismantling the mine.
I did take a look at the Wh Gerry pictures in Morrison but, as Wheal so rightly points out, the stacks are separate to the house.
Here's a close-up of the bob platt, but the nose of the bob, is hidden behind some bratticing, so hiding the hanging piece for the pump rod.
Much as today, the stripping of a mine seems to have been a popular subject to record, especially with the crew who were doing it.

Although loathe to resurrect an old thread, according to the KEM boys, the roof line and perspective of the houses is not quite right for Wheal Gerry. although it does look like Camborne / Redruth, a better fit is Thomas's shaft at West Wheal Kitty.:-[

You could be right, look at the shade of the stone next to the top RH quoin in the last photo in the thread then compare it to the one in this link:

I would agree, it does look like West Kitty but for one thing.
Being viewed from the winder side of the photo, which this one is, the engine house would be to the right of the capstan shears not the left.

Could you explain a bit more as my eyesight's not to good at the moment, I can't see any shears in the pic in the link I posted.

Looking at google earth or flash earth for Thomas's shaft West Wheal Kitty shows a row of terraced houses to the right, very similar to the ones in the original photo, in fact three of the chimneys look spot on spacing wise, on the original picture three chimneys are shown, but in google earth etc four are shown so maybe the fourth chimney and the house pertaining to it were built later, I also noted on the original picture that the tops of the windows on the houses appear to be arched, in google street view for the houses at Thomas's shaft the front of those houses show the windows tops to be arched as well.

Looks convincing to me but I stand to be corrected.
