Comments are sometimes worth a read. The quoted comment seemed to originate from someone who may well be on AN.

Daily xenophopic bollocks insisting that you are going to catch cancer from an unemployed BBC loving Muslim immigrant from Poland more like - ahhh that was therapeutic. The tw*ts. And that's with Katie something or other on board. Time for bed...

In a world which is becoming increasingly homogenous, bland and mundane anything a little bit different should be encouraged.

I think it would be a tragedy if a minority language like Cornish were allowed to wither and atrophy just because it has no practical use in the "real world". If a language is lost our shared cultural heritage is diminished. Preserving a language is just as important as preserving built or natural heritage.

As a Cornwall Council council tax payer I am more than happy that some of it is going to preserve the Cornish language.

Dolly Pentreath...!!!

Cornwall councils effort is just a tourist dollar branding exercise, if they want to preserve the language then best they inject some more cash into the libraries :)

Not only that it's probably good investment from a tourist industry point of view. I remember being fascinated by Welsh signs and roadmarkings and the like as a child on holiday.

Cymdaethas y iaeth Kernow,

£180,000 is trifling compared to other monies that have been skimmed off Cornwall`s grants and schemes.

Morlock, I don't know whether I am supposed to feel insulted or not, partly because I don't know what AN is. As it happens, I am quite thick skinned, usually, and certainly on forums like this.

The reason the tabloid in question is called the Daily Fail hereabouts is because it fails to get the facts right. I think that is logical. I have never actually heard it called the Daily Wail before.

No insult was intended. 'AN' refers to this site, (AditNow) as I felt the quoted comment may have come from someone on here who was making a point as regards Holman equipment and the way things used to be.

For your further enlightenment.

I did read somewhere that 'Peak' originated from 'Pict', I do know that we opposed the Romans in fine style ----

I'm from Wessex, and I insist that we fight for independence. We all need to learn a language that hasn't been spoken for hundreds of years.

Hail King Alfred the Great. Long may he reign over us.

And now in the 20th century, I realise that speaking English is pretty handy for communication purposes.

Looks like most of the money is going on signs, adverts and training council staff...er is any going on teaching it schools or courses for the general public? £180k probably would only pay for 4 or 5 extra police officers so it is a small sum as said.

Is it safe to come out of the bunker yet?

I hope they manage better with their road signs than Swansea Council did a few years ago:

Sorry, my mistake, I get it now. But I don't claim expertise in Holman equipment. Anyway, I did not really take offence. We come to forums like this to have a bit of fun, as well as for serious reasons, and a bit of mild banter does no one any harm.
