Hi folks

The last thread went off on several tangents and had a number of posts disagreeing with a contribution to a single beneficiary.

Whilst posts such as "is there no one in Cornwall" or "there are other groups doing good work" are 100% valid, we need somebody to name them otherwise we can't make a decision.

So, please, if you have a burning desire to name another group post it below - along with a short description of why.

Groups suggested to date are:

Cambrian Mines Trust
Combe Martin
King Edward Mine

Further suggestions please, then we can put it to the vote.

If the vote is for a single beneficiary then that's completely fine.

Please don't put comment / opinion in this thread. It's for nominating groups only.

All votes cast to date will be counted in the event of CMT being voted sole or part beneficiary.

Sorry if this seems a bit pedantic. But year after year I get complaints - after the event - that we haven't sent anything to specific parts of the country or that we've overlooked somebody.

I do hope that I am not out of line by posting this, if so an admin can delete, no offence taken.

But if the money does come to CMT, I have stated exactly how it will be spent, and you have my personal word on honor on that.

If there is a surplus it will go into further underground remedial work, word of honor again.

I really do think a CRO with mines on their turf should get a share. Possibly one of the Midland teams who responded to the big Snailbeach shout a couple of years back. If memory serves this was the Midlands CRO and Gloucestershire CRG teams.

How do people feel about:

1/3 to CMT, 1/3rd Midlands, 1/3rd Gloucestershire?

I think what Roy is indicating but is too polite to state
is that Cambrian Mines Trust NEEDS financial assistance for urgent access maintenance work to allow people here to retain access to some of the best mines in Wales.

I also strongly believe that to split any income three ways makes the sum of money too small.

Also Roy's commitment to detail where any funds would be spent is good.
Sometimes the money has been donated and the recipient has not even respond with any details of how the money has helped them. 😠

I agree 3rds is too small-er share. However, a CRO and a mining conservation group etc as per normal is fair. Yes CMT do good work, but so do alot of other organisations, there is plenty to go around.

My Vote KEM and a CRO. (I dont mind which CRO, but would vote for one that hasnt received before)

Okay 1/3rds is a no goer - does anyone have any firm preferences regarding a specific CRO? Are there any members of either the Midlands or Gloucestershire teams (or indeed any other) who want to fly the flag for their particular team?

It has not always been split two ways. At least twice it went solely to Cwmorthin and once before to CMT. Splitting it three ways would make each donation very small. I still reckon, for this year, baring in mind the work that has just taken place acquiring another site (even if funded differently) should mean to my mind, that CMT should get all of it this year.

By the way I am not connected with CMT in anyway, nor am I likely to visit either site so I do not have any vested interest, just that I can see a very worthy cause when I see one. Not that I am saying others are not worthy, just at this time CMT is more worthy.

Is it time to vote now, or are you just looking for nominations at this time?

If it's time to vote, I would like to vote for the Cambrian Mines Trust as sole beneficiary.

Thank you so much for all your efforts. I'm sure you get lots and lots of grief and grumbles, but without you actually putting the huge amounts of effort in to get the calendar out, there'd be no revenue to give to anybody.

And no splendid pictures to hang on my sitting room wall, of course!

All good wishes to you.

Given the overwhelming apathy on the CRO front I vote we give the lot to CMT.

Cambrian Mines Trust as sole beneficiary. Hope I get a chance for trip some time.

(If the money has to be split I'll vote for Derbyshire Cave Rescue Organisation.)

General concensus seems to be CMT as the sole beneficiary.

There have been some grumbles about not supporing certain areas of the country. Some suggestions were made, but no supporting details or why funds were needed (things people need to know in order to vote).

Next year I'd like to return to two benficiaries. And it would also - again next year - be nice to see other areas of the country supported.

Indeed - Cambridgeshire hasn't received a penny and our need is greatest since we pretty much need to start our mines from scratch rather than just maintaining old ones

Failing that my vote goes to CMT Roy has put so much work in and has made a good case for why the money is needed.

And we've donated almost nothing to the South West either. One donation to Devon CRO - but very little compared to what's gone to N Wales and certain other areas.

So next year let's try to get some other groups represented?

Not forgetting we also supported Kelly Iron Mine one year. 🙂
