Split it between Roy and an appropriate Cave / Mine Rescue Organisation.

I would like to bid on behalf of CMT.

As most people will be aware the hydro people pulled out which leaves the trust dependent on our modest grazing income and voluntary contributions. I rather fancy that external funding, if and when it becomes available will be earmarked for surface improvements. I do go with this as the mess in the area of the mill is driving me crazy.

A SAM approval application for essential underground work in Lefel Fawr has received approval and all we need is the money.
This is in two phases, first the supporting with concrete of a sagging timber the failure of which could cause a partial collapse of the stull immediately above the skipway.

The second is the putting through of a steel roadway to replace the very difficult second plastic drum. This will not only improve general access but will also improve rescue access should this become necessary as well as making life easier for getting men and materials into the mine to maintain timberwork.

Beside Cwmystwyth, remedial work is being done at Talybont to replace rotting timber with steel and concrete. I am paying for this out of my own pocket but it would be nice if the trust could afford to at least partially recompense me for this.

Loss of the hydro was a major blow.

EDIT
While I am on I should like to thank WMS for their contribution earlier this year which nicely covered the legal costs relative to the acquisition of Dinas Silica Mines.

Next time any of you go in there, thank WMS for helping to keep our access.

:confused:Nominations so far:

Preservation/ access groups:
Cambrian Mines Trust
Combe Martin
Kind Edward, Troon

Cave / mine rescue organisations:
None yet

Regarding Cambrian Mines Trust, I should make it clear that I recently joined the board of directors. If CMT wins the vote some may see that as a conflict of interest on my part. Hopefully most would not and would make their voting decision based on what each group does for our hobby. And in the interest of neutrality I shall not vote. I shall just count everybody elses' 🙂

Yet another vote for Cambrian Mines Trust to support the sterling work Roy is doing.

With respect to the Cave Rescue Organisations in Wales, Cambrian Caving Council has applied for Sports Safety Funding from the Welsh Sports Association again and so both North Wales and South Mid Wales CRO's should receive £750 each for 2015/2016. The paperwork has been OK'ed but it is subject to ratification by the WSA in the next few weeks.

I suggest that all the income this year goes to Cambrian Mines Trust for their work on Mines.
This is the most important work being done in Wales at the moment with their legal access negotiations, and physical repair work.

Can I suggest that people nominating a group/venture which hasn't already been nominated give a quick explanation of who they are and what they do? Not all of us will know Combe Martin for example.

As no one has suggested a rescue group yet, I'll suggest North Wales Cave Rescue, since they cover an area where a lot of us explore the slate mines.

I believe that everyone interested in Mining history and preservation is well aware of the work that has been done by Cambrian Mines Trust to allow access to formally closed sites. We have also seen the amount of work required to maintain access to some famous sites like Cwmystwyth as one example.
The format of the donation is not cast in stone.
For this year I still suggest that ALL the fund raised goes to C.M.T. :flowers:

I completely agree with what you say Rufenig. But Rockchick is correct. If people are going to suggest others for the vote (and don't worry, your vote for CMT has been counted!) then they need to tell us a bit about it - what the group does, why funds are needed etc.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
