Spotted some photos by Mike Higgins:

http://www.aditnow.co.uk/Photo/Small-Working-Off-Shaft_59580/

They're showing as orphaned because they're not tagged to a mine. Suspect the mine might have been deleted at some point (maybe a duplicate).

Anybody ID the location? I can then move the photos to the correct place :flowers:

That looks like the Wirksworth Mines Research Group's "Roy Paulson" winch, so I'll email a few chums for an opinon.

I may be stating the obvious, but why hasn't anyone asked me? They are of Chance Mine, taken in 1982 as far as I can remember. It is indeed the 'Roy Paulson' winch - nice to know that it survives with the WMRG.

Many thanks Mike. No offence intended by not asking you direct. I just spotted them, was in a bit of a rush at the time, and posted the forum thread.

I will get them tagged to the correct mine next week 🙂

Photos!

Can people please read and try to understand the following, pretty please.

A lot of software, possibly supplied with digital cameras, appears to 'automatically' right photos for viewing. So if the picture is taken upright it will view upright. Unfortunately its not upright so if uploaded to a website or given to someone burned onto a disk it will be on its side.

You don't have to install the software supplied with the camera whatever the manual says. Unless you use RAW or whatever they are jpegs, your camera has a memory chip and the pictures on it can be viewed and copied over using Windows Explorer. If you don't install the supplied software you wont get the unwanted free trials, personal information gathering, and whatever else they force up you as well.

Now pay attention children. Windows has a Photo Viewer and a picture may well open by just clicking on the file if its a jpeg. At the bottom on the right are little circle arrows that will turn a picture to right position, and when you close it, it is saved automatically. Isn't that clever?

Rant over

Spot on Roy. I never use the software supplied with cameras either, like you I just connect it up, use Windows Explorer to open whatever the camera calls the file, and transfer the photos over. Simples!

Well yes Mike. The trouble is that we seem to be into into a spiral of 'dumbing down' everything which takes people out of the learning curve so they never learn anything, and then it comes round and bites us in the bum.

I wont start on about Windows hiding file extensions by default and its other silly tricks

Hey, Windows Explorer, use this command line in your desktop shortcut and you will get roots on the left, files and folders on the right in a very neat way. Its called a command line switch:

C:\Windows\explorer.exe /n,/e, C:\
