Rowe's auction is amazing. It's one of those last places where you get the contents of people like Fred Dibnah's shed. They are notable for their mining lots. It seems the place of choice for the dispatch of elderly mining enthusiasts collections.

It's well known and bidding does go way over the top. It's where I'd sell, but seldom buy.

The silence on this topic has been deafening, i can't count the the number of threads that have been on this site about people who steal / take artifacts from mines
and on this one . Nothing
Could it be the vendor is part of the "inner circle"which makes it ok ?
It has certainly made me think again about removing items from underground , something i have never done , but now why not ? it seems alright for some , but not for others

Probably because no one knows anything.

Geevor, Botallack and Levant could be legit, it that when sections of those mines were dewatered it was known that anything left undergound would be lost when the pumps were switched off. The Drakewalls is worrying in that the adit was well written about as having a lot of arefacts when it was accessible by way of the 'manhole' in the road outside Basset House.

The thing is, what can one do about it all?

There are mines which my trust owns, and others over which I have some measure of control. But ithat doesn't prevent someone going in and removing something, so what do I do then, padlock everything?

There is no real answer to this, its been going on and will still go on.

Significant collectors/local mining enthusiasts do eventually die.

Sometimes, they dispose of their collections whilst they are still alive.

There are a couple of candidates locally.

The antiques centre on the barbican in Plymouth has a collection of tools from "United Mines" (which I expect were dug out of gwennap united when Jane investigated it). The chap wanted £75 years ago...they are still there. Totally useless for anyone without a museum IMO.

I gather the stuff is from an old (small) museum local to Geevor which has been closed some time.

North Levant plan is quite nice. The others are typical of others, the geevor ones being prints.

A few lots and the usual faces sniffing around. My hunch is everything is going to go silly.

Nice classic kitchen units in the hall!!

Any old miners lamps ?;D

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
