Do not whatever you do buy a second-hand harness, this is something you're going to be entrusting your life to so you need to know it's sound and that means buying one new, likewise cowstails and the d-maillon. Maybe borrow one for the initial learning of SRT (which is usually hanging out of a tree) and find someone to teach you, but get one new once you're ready to go underground. You should be able to get one for 40-45 quid and cowstails are generally made up from 9 or 10mm climbing rope. However, you can get away with second-hand jammers and descenders, these come up on Ebay pretty regularly.

Look for a cheap coffin to go with it.
Sorry to be so blunt, but no,no,no.

Have a look at www.starlessriver.com or give Tony a ring on 01748 811438 or 07896 463971. He'll give you top notch advice; and a SRT harness doesn't need to cost big bucks.

I suppose the reaction to the question was fairly predictable.

I for one will only every use my own kit because I know exactly where its been its whole life.

It works out pretty reasonably priced and has everything you need to start out, bar a helmet and some rope:

Might be an idea to book a course initially.

No point in buying the gear if you have no idea how to use it.

Also: not everyone gets on with SRT.

Try the Black Diamond ones from Go Outdoors, there will be one in Plymouth, the cheepest are only £45, i wouldnt expect to pay less than that for something as important as a harness. Also the ones with padding are more comfortable, maybe something to think about if you are new to wearing one.

Don't buy off ebay, even if they look new you dont know how much wear/stress has been placed on them.
