Hello,

I've just bought a new book titled "The Quarries of Lakeland," by David Glover, published this year, and it mentions a plan by Burlington Slate in 2008 to open-up part of the Elterwater Quarry site - including the huge underground Peppers Quarry closehead - to visitors. At the time of publication the author states that these plans are on hold, is there any detailed news available on this project?

Cheers!

Spoke to the manager on phone some years ago, I can't remember the exact details but this was in 2008ish. I wouldn't really like to say for certain but when I was last in there it wasn't ready

I was in there yesterday. A flood lighting system has been installed and the track down to the bottom level is now graded like a road that a family car could drive down. Not sure about how good the idea of opening it up to tourists is though.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
