I have a red Ecrin Roc, unused but fitted with a lamp bracket, due to go on eBay shortly.

Couple of scratches, but otherwise fine and complete with the pack of replacement head bumpers (or whatever the padding is called).

Slightly unsure what to ask for it, but if anyone wants to make an offer, I'll consider it!

Replacement will probably be a Vertex Best - the reasoning is down to sentimentality concerning a lamp bracket, of the sort that should probably see me committed to an institution with padded walls... 😮

Bless! Somebody (can't remember who!) was wanting one. Will ask around at dig tomorrow night.

Unless somebody else grabs hold of it first that is...

I have now used my new Edelrid Ultralight in anger.

The shell is identical (with the addition of holes) to the CS protex.

The cradle is pretty much the same as the Protex. As with the Protex the Ultralight sits well on the head. A friend of mine who uses a Petzl Elios tried it and reckoned that it was a much more secure fit than the Elios.

In use the Ultralight felt very similar to my old Protex.

The only real difference was that I had to fit a lamp bracket.

In short the Edelrid Ultralight is an almost identical and thus a good replacement for the late lamented Caving Supplies Protex.

If you are looking for a new lid this really does deserve serious consideration. (It is also cheaper than the Petzl offerings including secondhand Ecrins)

All in all highly recommended.

My Petzl Ecrin Roc is on eBay and open to (sensible) offers:

As seen at Hidden Earth 😉
