Ho Hum!! - the Daily Fail is wayyyy behind the web, this was posted on "English Russia" a while back!

I was stunned when I first saw the photo's though, and, like most would love to see it with my Mk1 eyeballs!

What an amazing place!

reminds me a bit of some of those rather lurid fantasy world artworks one occasionally sees, only a hundred times more wonderful as it happens to be real.....and underground 🙂

I haven't heard of Carnallite before. Seems to produce stable roadways judging from the photos, similar to photos i've seen of the roadways driven in rock salt.
Wonder if they get anything remotely similar in Boulby potash mine.

(By the way didn't, as usual, think much of the text. Have downloaded the photos so I can enjoy them at my leisure without being subjected to "Daily Fail speak" every time I look at them)

The machine looks more like this:

http://www.themoscowtimes.com/business/article/appraiser-appraised-after-potash-deal/427802.html

It was most likely one of these three:
http://www.kopemash.ru/en/products/68/368.html
http://www.kopemash.ru/en/products/68/367.html
http://www.kopemash.ru/en/products/68/366.html

Carnallite certainly isn't as good as you think. Good salt, but bad rockmechanical properties and even worse in connection with water. A lot of rockburst in potash mines are closely linked to Carnallite just like collapsed mines after a brine ingress.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
