A bit on lead mining in tonight's program, the lads were taken in a level,I think it may have been in Derbyshire or Shropshire,to mine some lead ore to take out and smelt, which they did and cast into ingots. It went on to show how valuable lead was as a roofing material for the Monasteries and just what a handle the church had on mining.

It was Snailbeach in Shropshire apparently, though didn't watch it myself.

The underground location was Roberts level at Snailbeach Lead Mine Shropshire. The lead vein there is worked out but it allowed good, safe filming.

The adit entrance being dug was a small trial level close by.

Most of the filming of the smelting was done high on the Stiperstones during the hottest week of the year. :smartass:

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
