John, I would say this is the east side of the road looking west into the corner where the tunnel went through....just the slope of the land where the road comes down makes me think that. Back in the 70's and 80's I had some long conversations with Tommy Wilson, the then landowner. He told me that during the first world war he and his sister used to supply cigarettes to some of the German POWs who were held at a camp at Shittlehope and who were put to work in the quarries. Not really apropos of anything but it just reminded me of some of the characters I've met over the years.
