Hi, does anyone know a good website where i can find out how the pumps used to drain mines worked? Also head gear and winches.
Just to give myself more of an idea of how the mines i visit would have looked back in the day.

are we talking electric pumps or beam engine powered? although all pumping is done in stages, the pump can only lift so much water so high in one go. down here (Cornwall) we have pumping and winding engines still kicking around

The Laxey Mines Research Group have some quite nice animations of clack valve pumps and other underground machinery.

Mackley make specialist pumps for the mining industry, these are normally bespoke, so there is not a wealth of design specifications widely available. However this gives a little insight into the power used in mine pumping: -
C2.5 million gallons per day at a head of 1370m utilising 2.08MW motor.

I've dealt with them for dredge pumps but they do mine pumps as well
Don't look so embarrassed, it's a family trait...
