Any news of the drilling at Nenthead? At least one hole should be finished by now but no news on the Minco website yet.

Would have thought access would have been a little difficult over the winter, and probably held things up.

Last I heard they were on the 3rd hole but couldn't get up there for the snow and their water was frozen.
A taste of things to come if they find anything worth coming back for 😉

About a week ago they were at Nentsberry up Haggs Bank and appeared to be using the area opposite the recently restored/renovated mineshop to keep all their kit. As the mineshop has been done up as a bunkhouse they may be utilising that as a base.

Has anyone any news on developments at nenthead. I thought their initial drill results for eight holes were due in march.

Due to prolonged and heavy snowfall in the area in recent months it is probably fair to assume that they are running a tad behind schedule. This they may not have foreseen when they embarked on this project although Nent seems to have it's own weather system so they should have taken this into account. :bored:

They are not drilling in the Nent Valley now. Does anyone know whether they are in the Wellhope valley? They are not in the main West Allen valley.

Approx. how many of the eight planned drill holes do posters believe are completed?

I presume they must be nearly finished, the weather has been pretty good recently.

not sure, but what looked liked the rig waiting to be erected was sat just off the road at the head of the rookhope valley yesterday, next to corbitmere

When I came past Corbitmere Dam yesterday - the only bit of interesting equipment I could see was a "Power Grid" tracked vehicle parked beside the road.

This bit of kit is used to erect / repair the "telegraph" poles to carry the power cables - looks like a programme to replace / repair the power supply is about to start.

So still looking for the Drilling Rig - perhaps its been taken off the moor untill the grouse breeding season is finished.

You could be right there John, however this sounds like the same vehicle which spent Xmas and New Year parked up at the end of the unmetalled road which runs from the Wellhope area and joins the road to Coalcleugh a little way above Minco's first drill site. As I don't know how to insert a photo into the forum I've placed one temporarily in the Coalcleugh user album for you to have a look at.

Looking at the picture in Coalcleugh - that type of tracked vehicles is used in the Pennines by the Shooting Estates etc to build and maintain the roads.

As the drill rig used by Minco was tracked, I would have thought it would not have required a purpose made road.

Last week the rig was drilling at the very highest point of the road between Nenthead and Coalcleugh.
Some of the guys (the smarter dressed ones) were having coffee in the lounge of the Nent Hall Hotel and talking about the project when I arrived, so I was all ears. Perhaps they realized because they soon left and I found out nothing!

Yes, I'll have it - what is it?

On the 14th they visited Nenthead Smelting Mill and introduced one of their Directors. Drill rig is at the same location.

I've locked this thread since there's another longer thread running on the same subject - to avoid confusion:
