Now before anyone gives me a rude answer what I am really looking for is a reasonably easy to access with lots to see underground location... non SRT just a good walk in (within reason) trip somewhere I can practice my underground photography. North to Mid Wales and Pennines viable but would appreciate a little advise... I fancy a nice big slate cavern but a nice big mine would be nice... any suggestion pls?? :flowers:
Edit... trying to keep it simple!!

Lots to see at Alderly Edge, Check out the DCA Handbook on their website for access details, lots of other Derbyshire mines in there too.
Always remember, nature is in charge, get it wrong and it is you who suffers!.

Nenthead?
Could keep you busy for a few days just on the walk-in stuff. No ridiculously huge caverns that you need an anti-aircraft spotlight to see the other side with but some fairly good sized holes nonetheless.
And the pub is only 5 minutes from the car park...

Penarth is often seen as a good starter slate mine.

Unlike some doesn't have a lung bursting walk to get there.

Swaledale or Arkengarthdale are OK for walking into lead mines with no issues.

OK so what levels are the walk in ones at Nent?
On the Penarth front is that easy access? Where do you park and walk from to etc
Thanks all this is great stuff!

Rampgill at Nent is in the carpark. I hope to be there in the next few weeks for a photo intensive trip. Feel free to dob in on that one if you want.

Penarth is just walk in. Map is on here I think.

Smallcleugh is the easiest though a fair walk up from the car park and is well visited but once off the tourist route to the Ballroom there are plenty of interesting places that don't have hundreds of pictures already posted here.

Rampgill is right off the car park but is over-welly wet for everything except Brewery shaft. Scaleburn would be the best target - try and get a different pic of the horse gin!

Brownley Hill is OK for dryness, at least as far as I can remember cos I've only been in once.

Capelcleugh and Nentsberry Haggs are muchly wet so best avoided.

I'm up most Sundays if you don't mind being guided by someone who gives a very good imitation of someone who can't quite remember where he is...

Penarth map on ME:

But to be honest, a trip with someone who knows a mine will be best.

I like a wander in there too, if I can get out for a few hours, babysitter dependant.

I'll be bringing my picture-taking device too, should I manage to get out.

I haven't been in Penarth for years so if we gave plenty of notice and organised something then I'm in! I'm sure a few others would jump in too?
@ICLOK...are you thinking of a weekend?
