Could one of the mods please amend the 'Glasshoughton' pit entry to Glass Houghton as this is the official name (and also the local Town's name).
Thanks

I live in Knottingley and my better half works at Birchwood farm the pub that now resides on top of Glasshoughton pit.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasshoughton  confirms that is was spelt correctly before hand.

Just Saying.

I was born and raised in Glasshoughton and started work at Glass Houghton pit from leaving school in 1969.

Before anyone hits the panic button over my spelling, take it from me, it can be spelled either way. Debates have been had, wars fought, over the presentation of the village's (not town's) title and no settlement has been made either way.

So, no-one is right and no-one is wrong, except the twerp who made the sign on the M62 roundabout (Pontefract side) and spelt it with a small 'g'. Now, that annoyed everybody!

Dave.
Well, ok.......just one for the road then !

To back up Dave's observation two photographs of the pit's signs from the Pontefract Heritage Groups flickr stream:

Well the official NCB sign said Glass Houghton but I'll bow to whatever everybody else wants, however, so it can be found by the search engine - would it be reasonable to have the alternative listed in the 'also known as'?
