I have just received a copy of Steve Gudgings excellent new book 'The Last Years of Coal Mining in Yorkshire' as a belated Christmas present.
It was worth the wait :)
Its a cracking book worthy of any coal addicts coffee table meticulously collected from the author's own photographic record of the final days of some of the many of the Yorkshire collieries closed in the final decades of the industry, the South Yorkshire pumping stations and the some of the remaining coal related industrial archaeology.
The photography is excellent; while mostly of the surface it does includes some fantastic underground photography in some of the more obscure corners of Caphouse, Nostell and Silverwood Collieries.
You will get low resolution taste of the book here:
Not had chance to read properly, I have just gawped at the photos ::)
Only criticism to date is no mention of my family's pit Yorkshire Main!
