Wheel

This 32ft diameter overshot wheel (or one very like it) powered an edge-running manganese crushing mill. The water to power this wheel comes from a pond high on the hill above through a fairly small bore pipe. Waterpower was much used at Morwellham, it was brought by the Tavistock canal and powered the inclined plane which raised and lowered the trucks to the quay; pumped water to the workers cottages; the farm had a water-powered threshing machine and another large wheel worked a small incline to the copper mine. © Copyright Penny Mayes and licensed for reuse under this Creative Commons Licence
