Upcast fan and the emergency exit shaft behind. This only went to 3 level I believe and all exits from the lowest levels (16 level being the shaft ore pocket) were by ladderways up rises. If an emergency arose underground were alerted by the use of eucalyptus oil sprayed into the main shaft which was the downcast route. It was also wet in places and riding up in the cage could be very cold on a sub-zero winter''s night.
