A third shaft, No5, was sunk from the surface to a depth of 630 yards as a Coal winding and upcast shaft. No3 shaft was deepened from the top Hard to the Deep soft horizon and No 4 shaft which was allready down to the Deep Hard was cleaned out and repaired. a new Pit bottom was built at the Deep Soft horizon and new reinforced concrete Headgears were erected over each shaft. A dirt tip in the pit yard was cleared away and a considerable amount of waste land reclaimed for colliery use. A new coal preperation plant and sidings were constructed and dirt disposal arrangements reorganised. New workshops, stores, winders, ventilating fans, lamp room pithead baths and offices were built. The steam raising plant was dismantled and electricity supplied all the pwer requirements of the colliery, with modern boilers in the new pit head baths fulfilling the heating needs.
