Shafts appear to show on old maps as late as the early 1960s However The Eighth Pit, George Pit and Charles Pit Houses were marked Disused by 1896, The Wagonway sprouted a new line heading from The Charles Pit to the present day Lumley Service Station, possibly a Coal Depot?. However by 1920 map The wagonway had been removed and The Pea Flatts marked as Disused.Today there is a small gravel parking area and Farmers Gate to the side which is very close to the Road on Pit House Lane. I wish I ventured in as the shaft was to the right on a raised grassed area, possibly the odd bit of Brickwork could remain?
