Note: the most recent feature in this view (besides the modern lodge) is the Devonport Leat which dates to 1790. There is no contemporary record known of these elevated workings, which feature a mix of lode Openworks and streamworks. In this complex view; most “recent” shafts have been sunk in a streamwork, which appears to be itself on top of an even earlier open work. From when the earliest workings date is anyone’s guess; but the scale of the work coupled with its inactivity in the 1790s alludes to a rich early - even medieval - root to its history.
