This is the western side of the main 19th C workings to the north of the buildings. Much of this area is now fenced despite being water filled as the workings have been extended underground. The deepest shaft was Hambly''s at 84 fathoms.(Hamilton Jenkin, Mines of Devon vol 1 p104)
