Newborough shaft

Just a stone's throw from the Rhiwbach tramway at SH730465 is this mine. First worked in 1850, as a gold mine. Later quantities of silver-lead and copper were recovered. Quartz waste lies all around. The mine closed in the late 1880's. This is the flooded 5 fathom shaft, with the vein exposed just above the shaft. (information: "The old Copper Mines of Snowdonia, David Bick"
