Showing the Success Pit to the top Left, note how the main railway linking both mines ran through the street and the triangle part in the centre formed by the different directions of wagon way is marked Reservoir, This prominent and built up area still remains and is a reminder of its past. Both mines had two shafts. also the large haulage engine to pull the heavy trucks up from the Lambton Pits, It is possible that Stationary engines were dotted along the Wagon way to Sunderland before Steam engines came into play ! The line leading off to the bottom was to the Houghton colliery.
