Lower Level Colliery adit 2004

Although the Lower Level Colliery buildings now lay under thousands of tons of rock and the Kilgetty Bypass the spoil heap still survives with the smithy now a shed and the carpenters workshop now converted into a private house. This adit survives coming out of the North side of the spoil heap. Lower Level Colliery was started in 1797 and stopped winding coal in 1884 although being maintained for a few years after as ventilation for Kilgetty Colliery. My great grandfather John Davies was the last surviving miner who worked down the Lower Level Colliery.
