Linby Colliery, notts

Viewed from the Tip. Linby was one of the last pits in the country to use steam winders, Both were Robey mac hines installed in the 1920's. The coal shaft no2 engine was dismantled in 1983 and rebuilt as an exhibit at the Papplewick pumping station, its replacement electric winder hauled six tonnes of coal per draw at 70 draws per hour, the winding engine at no1 upcast remaining in use until closure in march 1988
