A 1980 view looking west to the 1870s winding engine house at Kemberton (right). It originally housed 2 horizontal-twin cylinder steam winders by John G.Stevenson & Co., Preston, Lancashire. Due to shaft sinking problems the engines were never really used and were sold in the 1890s. The building being converted to the electric power house. It survived the closure of the mine in 1967, being used as a council depot, until it was demolished in 1984 - along with 1950s steel framed stores building (left).
