Headgear at Ackworth

The circular concrete building being the stand bye fan house. To the right of the shaft was the "new", fan house. The covered building in the fore ground was a tippler, which loaded stone on to conveyors which took it into the hopper on the left. Which was then loaded into lorries. This & other other equipment was installed to remove "waste", from the mine, created by the development of the Haigh Moor seam.Despite spending millions, the coal faces had major geological faults & couldn't be worked. This meant closure in 1985, a sad day for many. (If I remember rightly. I had to climb up a floodlight tower, to get the shot).
