Hawkes Shaft,Killifreth Mine Near Chacewater

The pumps here were put on care and maintenance in 1922 thinking that it would not be too long before the price of Tin rose to a level where the mine would be viable. It closed some years later and the machinery was sold off. No one bought the pitwork and this is still in the shaft. Pumprod, Rising main,Plunger Pole and these massive Clack Valves. The Plunger Pole is still strapped to the pump rod and all the straps are in first class condition as is the rod. What's more, the rising main is still holding a column of water, after 84 years!
