The building on the left is the later winding house and the building on the right is the earlier winding house. The early winding house had an engineering workshop on the ground floor and offices on the second floor. My great great great grandfather was an foundryman and engine fitter and worked on the fitting of the original engines and cages for the colliery in the 1850s.
