Gedling Colliery No2 Winder (Installed 1970)

This is a view of the Drum and the No1 motor of this twin motor drive AC 2750 HP 6600 Volt Metropolitan Vickers winding engine which started its life at Wellesley Colliery in Fife 1955 and was dismantled and transferred to Gedling by rail in early 1970 to replace the Bever Dorling steam winder. The No2 Steam winder had been re conditioned with new cylinders by Markham of Chesterfield in 1966. The Electric winder was sited behind the steam winder and a flat roof put on the steam winder to allow easy changeover when the replacement winder was complete.
