Gedling Colliery Early 1950s

Here we see the building of a new conveyor bridge between the pit top coaling level and the washery. This was carried out in preparation for a new mine car automated circuit at the No1 shaft where mine cars would remain on the pit top and not travel to the check wiegh as did the tubs which were raised at two per deck. The old creeper returning empties can be seen and it is belt driven. On the left of the picture can be seen the old lattice headgear and the front east edge of the No2 Winding house.
