Gairs from a distance

Taken from part way along the Gairs railway. See 'Gairs looking away' for opposite view. The steam locos must have made a fine sight climbing the fell. Gairs opened in 1909 and closed in 1936. Considering the wet and fractured coal seams, it was a success, producing 900,000 tons of coal.
