There were two types of winding engine here, one pair by Fowler of Leeds and the other by Robey of Lincoln. The latter sported the date 1923, which was also the date on the gable end of one of the engine houses. I cannot recall whether the Fowlers or the Robeys were for man riding or coal hoisting, or both. My notes on the neg bags don't say!
