Foss Barite Mine. 1986

Foss Barite Mine, Aberfeldy, Perthshire. The 630 m. level. Broken barite ore fallen from a raise to 660 m. level. Note vertical barite in roof and brown cherty hanging wall contact on right-hand side. The raise can be a vertical or in this case a steeply inclined working driven upwards for access to the ore. The ore, after blasting from the orebody is dumped down the raise where it is collected at the bottom for removal from the mine. Photo P001565.
