Foss Barite Mine, Aberfeldy, Perthshire. Entrance to the 690 m. level drift commenced June 1986. The lower, left-hand wall represents the hanging wall (upper contact) of the barite. The footwall contact is in the upper right-hand side of the picture. The barite lies near the top of the Ben Eagach Schist (Argyll Group, Middle Dalradian). The beds are dipping at 45 degrees to the right-hand side (the west) and have been turned 135 degrees from their original horizontal position. The men are installing wire mesh to prevent downfall of barite blocks during drilling and blasting operations. Photo P001563. Reproduced with the permission of the British Geological Survey ©NERC.
