The typical cone-shaped depression marks the run-in engine shaft of Dalrhiw mine (mid to late 19th century, copper and lead). The stonework was associated with the T-rocker or angle-bob which converted the motion from flat-rods connected to the waterwheel in the valley below into vertical motion to work the pumps in the shaft. The gulley in which the rods moved can still be traced down the hillside.
