Compare this with the archive photo from the 1990s. I have tried to figure out the many pump rods, one theory is that failed rods were pushed to one side and secured rather than being removed. Another is that we are looking at rocker beams dragged down the shaft when the pump rod was released at the time that the beam engine was dismantled for scrap. This was a common practice.
