Detail of the Mould Stone and Hearth, Merrivale Blowing House

Internal context of the main features of the site. Note the hearth is free standing and would''ve probably been covered by clay save for the great heat. A granite trough sits in a sightly displaced position at the base of the hearth; this is described by Pryce (1778) and appears to be something of a "catch pan" for white tin that flows from the base of the smelter in liquid form. The mould stone is then in close proximity so as the tin might be conveniently ladeled from the trough to the mould.
