As near as I can work out there would have been a motor mounted on 4 holding down bolts nearest the camera, this would likely have been electric and mounted in a steel or iron frame with a winding drum above carrying steel cable. The motor would have had a drive gear as would the winding drum, they being connected by a transfer gear on a shaft supported by a bearing mounted in the bearing cap seen in the picture. The whole being part of the haulage system from a nearby inclined drift. There are also pieces of rail to be seen nearby.
