The water seen draining out here is not just the mine drainage, but also the Wanlock Burn which sinks down into the Straitsteps Vein workings (just in front of the visitor mine entrance) and works it's way through to the Bay mine workings (which actually connect with the workings on the Lochnell Vein - the visitor mine) and emerges here. The river bed in the upper part of the valley is dry except in wet weather!
